Debey Zito Fine Furniture and Design
Debey Zito Fine Furniture and Design has been creating original museum-quality furniture in the Asian, American and European Arts and Crafts traditions for over 35 years. The furniture is infused with historical awareness, yet honed by her personal vision and design experience. Each piece emerges as a creative expression blending past with present.
Individually selected hardwoods from sustainably-grown forests, time-honored joinery, highly skilled handwork and hand-rubbed finishes result objects to be treasured for generations.
For more than a decade, partner Terry Schmitt’s hand carving brings elements of nature to the furniture and interior spaces.
Debey’s Design Sevices brings the same breadth of design experience emphasizing visual harmony in the home. Our primary focus is to create interiors sympathetic both to the architecture, and the needs of our clients. Terry’s carvings can create jewel points in interior spaces, as in friezes and plasma screen doors.
Among Debey’s notable commissions are furniture for the family room in Greene and Greene’s Blacker House, choir benches for San Francisco’s historic Swedenborgian Church, and a display cabinet for the lobby of Disney’s Grand California Hotel. Her work has also appeared in numerous periodicals, including Old House Interiors, Style 1900, Fine Woodworking, and Woodwork and has she been published in several books: The Bungalow, Inside the Bungalow, Arts and Crafts Style and Spirit, and The Beautiful Necessity.
