Gale Melton Design

We are saddened beyond words to report that our dear Gale Melton died January 5th , 2024.

Gale Melton Design has been serving the San Francisco Bay area for 20 years, offering kitchen and bathroom design, color consultation, furnishings, space planning, and general decorating for both period and modern residences. Gale has a unique understanding of how to optimize space in Victorian and early 20th century houses, which are cherished and preserved by Bay Area residents, but whose finishes and floorplans can exasperate the most ardent preservationist. Working with a deep understanding of period style, she brings the ease and functionality of modern living to blend seamlessly with the historic envelope.

Before studying design at the University of California at Berkeley, she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art History from the American University in Paris, and developed an enduring appreciation for Europe’s architectural and decorative design history. Gale’s lifelong devotion to the arts informs her historically sensitive renovations, bringing an understanding of the design aesthetics of the past to complement the contemporary palette.

Rated Best of Houzz 2015, a member of NKBA National Kitchen + Bath Association, and the NARI builders’ association, Gale Melton is a trusted regional designer that helps her clients from the consulting phase through detailed drawings and finish specifications, to project completion. Gale encourages her clients to embrace the quirks and charm of their vintage homes that might otherwise have been eliminated by the “rip-it-out and replace” approach.

Gale enjoys collaborating with talented artisans and specialty vendors to support the skills and materials of past eras that have been sidelined by modern economics, guiding projects toward unique and beautiful results.
