Once the original master bedroom, this inviting retreat is now used as a guest bedroom. Visually linked by a series of arching alcoves, the fireplace wall is defined by a series of built-ins created as part of the recent remodel. A cushioned bench was incorporated on the left, with a pair of display cabinets flanking the fireplace, and a dresser built in to the right. Subtly colored, low-relief handmade tile on the fireplace surround recreates the signature style of period tilemaker Ernest Batchelder. In the remodel, the original bedroom was expanded toward the right; the added space was taken from an exising closet with a small window, which is now open to the bedroom. Within the original wooden window sash, Theodore Ellison inset a new art glass design of stylized oak leaves. Other Artistic License members' work here includes the stencilled poppy-motif curtains and pillows, designed and fabricated by Dianne Ayres, and the handprinted wallpaper by Bradbury & Bradbury, which reproduces a period patterned designed by English Arts & Crafts luminary William Morris.
